Brokeback Mountain

Ever since I saw the trailer for this movie, I wanted to see it. Not because the main characters were gay, but because it was the love story of two men.

The movie started off a bit slow for me, but gradually it picked up and had a viser grip on my attention till the end.

Some high points for me:
  1. The scenery. Lush green mountains, crisp clean river water.
  2. A lot of critics spoke about Heath Ledger's performance. But the guy who stood out first was Jake (cant spell his last name). He gave an awesome performance as well and must not me underemphasized.
  3. Heath Ledger. Fantastic performance.
  4. Anne Hathaway. It was great seeing her in an adult role and not some movie geared for a children's audience. I hope she gets more roles like this.
  5. The few sex scenes. The way some people tell it, this movie was just chock full of gay sex, but it wasnt. You have about one major sex scene and the other two scenes were just them kissing deeply.

Bottom line: Go see this movie. You forgot the guys are gay and are caught up in their lives and their lies. You want them to be together, to live the life that Jack Twist dreams of, but in your heart you know that it cant happen today in 2006 far less for the 1970s.

Calypso Monarch results

I must say that I am truly disappointed with the results this year. However, I must pat myself on the back for actually staying up for the whole event. This was achieved with the assistance of some MSN convos and some snacks.

There were some calypsonians who truly impressed me. Brian London, Stinger, a new guy Roderick Gordon and of course Chalkie.

These are the results I would have given if I were the ONLY judge that night.

12) Brother Mudada
11) De Fosto
10) Crazy
9) Sugar Aloes
8) Singing Sandra
7) Skatie
6) Karen Asche
5) Roderick Gordon
4) Stinger
3) Brian London
2) Luta
1) Chalkie

Sunday Feast

I can always tell when my boyfriend is up to something. He asks these questions and when you want to know why, he says, "Nothing!" in a sing song way. Then you hear bags rustling and see him move swiftly from room to room.

The picture you are seeing is the result of his mysterious movements today. What makes this even more special is that we dont have a dining room table, so when we do eventually get one, I cant wait to have many more feasts like this.

This picture here is a labour of love. Today isnt my birthday, no anniversary, I didnt get a promotion (yet!), so there was no special occasion. When asked why he did it, he said he did it to make me happy. Sweet eh!!!!!

And by the way, everything was delicious!!!

My Birthday

I turned 27 this year. I honestly don't feel like it. But then, how are you supposed to feel at 27?

I have the sweetest boyfriend on the planet yes. That man made a delicious lasagne for me for lunch. That alone would have been a present enough, but he also got the The Incredibles DVD. This is the first DVD in a collection I hope to start. I hope to only buy DVDs of movies that have any sort of special effects. The next on the list is "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".That movie touched me in a special way.

Anyway, I went to school. A lot of students wished me Valentine's Day. My class wished me Happy birthday as well as a form one class. Some of my students gave me some presents which was more than I expected.

I havent sat down and done my usual birthday reflections as yet. I am so busy organising other things that I just havent had the time to ponder on the past year. But one thought did come to mind though: I am tired of accepting mediocrity. I am tired of accepting shit. And as long as I am not hurting anybody physically, I am going to do my best to fight for what's right.

Carnival.....bleh

My boyfriend and I are home for the weekend. Unless he has to work, we eh going a place.

I think back to my childhood and I would admit Carnival was not a big thing at home. I played kiddies Carnival once. I think I irritated my mother by always insisting that we reach on time for all the venues we had to go, only to wait for hours.

My father listened to a lot of the old time calypsoes as well as the calypsoes at Calypso Fiesta and Dimanche Gras, so maybe that's where I got my appreciation for the artform. But I never saw my mother play mas. I think my sister played when she was small. My brother never played.

When I think of Carnival now, I think it's over priced and really not worth the money. I wouldnt go a fete in Soca Broadway, so that leaves the all-inclusives. I eh drinking and eating $400 worth and I eh like soca that much, so I paying all that money for a lime? NAH!

There were some shows that I wanted to take in however; Lucky Diamond Horsheclub and the 3Canal show; I just didnt make it :(

I hope everyone enjoys their Carnival and they are safe.

I have not written anything in my blog for quite a while now.

I seem to have lost my inspiration for writing in this thing.

That's why my boyfriend is going to hook my blog up with a makeover and things should be groovy from there.

I am going to try something for my birthday week. I am NOT going to quarrel about anything that is going on with the school. I am going to remain silent...see how the other side lives.

I am NOT going to stress myself out this week. I am keeping it nice and lively. I will be turning 27 this year. Old eh.....heh heh heh.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was an excellent movie.

Highlights for me:
  1. I loved the music.
  2. The scene with Mr Tumnus taking Lucy back to his home was very child molester-ish and I immediately thought of SVU.
  3. I was captivated by Tilda Swanton's portrayal of the White Witch. I was hoping that she would have been in every scene. I have never seen her in any movie before, but she has just won a loyal fan.
  4. The beavers were so cute eh. I loved when Mr Beaver told his wife to stop fixin up herself, she looked lovely. Awwwww.
  5. The fight scene with the white witch and Peter was EXCELLENT. I would buy the DVD just to see that fight again. In fact, that whole scene with the two sides battling was well done. Slightly Lord of the Ring-ish, but I still enjoyed it.
  6. Liam Neeson's portrayal of Aslam was great.

Go see it.

My boyfriend made bake tonight but he got burnt. Poor baby.

What can I really say here?

Work is wearing me out. Being the tough lady with the Form Ones is tough and it takes a lot out of me. But being able to give an exercise and hear peace and quiet is worth it yes.
If this could only work with my form class and form threes. But let me not be ungrateful. These form 3s are 10 million times better than the pack last year.

Yuh know what I realised? I am one lucky gal. I was feeling sick yesterday and my boyfriend rubbed my belly for me and brought me lunch in bed. Isnt he a sweetie? I love him so much.

I havent written in a long time because I am just so tired these days. I love teaching eh, but it takes so much out of me.

School is getting so stressful. Right now I am supposed to be in school getting ready to give a Form three class a test, but I just need some time to get myself together. I am fighting the cold.

People are tense, nobody is laughing no more. It just sucks.
